For international research collaborations between PhD and Early Career Researchers and Scottish Institutions, the British Council through the Scotland SGSAH is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the British Council Scotland SGSAH Earth Scholarships 2024.


The program aims to highlight the contributions and interventions made by the environmental arts and humanities, the arts and culture sector, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics) researchers in solving the climate emergency.

British Council Scotland SGSAH Earth Scholarships


The scholarship will promote sustainable research and cultural exchanges within and outside of the arts, humanities, and cultural sectors, as well as research opportunities and international mobility that will help develop and support fresh strategies for addressing the world’s climate catastrophe.

For up to three months in 2024, the initiative will offer scholarships to PhD and Early Career Researchers from outside the UK who wish to conduct in-person and hybrid interactions in Scotland in the fields of environmental arts and humanities. In April 2024, the grantees of the research assignments will join together with academics from Scotland to network and collaborate as part of a 2-week core leadership program, supported by a number of Clusters that are regionally and thematically focused.

Eligibility Criteria

Application requirements for the British Council Scotland SGSAH Earth Scholarships 2024 must be met.

Candidates must hold a PhD and be early career researchers working in the environmental arts and humanities who are registered at or have graduated from a non-UK university in order to go to Scotland to collaborate with an academic mentor and utilize the networks and resources of a host higher education institution.
